Question: Would you consider square watermelons as genetically-modified? What are the advantages and disadvantages to watermelons that are grown to resemble pyramids and squares?
It depends how they were developed, not what they look like! These are not shapes that occur very often (if at all) in nature, so finding a genetic solution may not be possible. You might try growing them inside containers of different shapes – one for a summer school project!
Advantages – they would look really interesting, and would take less space for packing and storage. Disadvantages – how many people would buy them?
